2003: Vancouver (Queen Elizabeth Theatre), December
6
As per tradition, The
Magic of Christmas 2003 was the musical event of the holiday season!
The show returned to Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Dec.
6th with a stellar line-up that included renowned a cappella group
The Nylons and Canadian musical
theatre star Michael Burgess
(Jean Valjean of Les Miserables), along with special guests Shari
Ulrich, Howe Sounds (Monique
Creber, Angela Kelman,
Steve Maddock and David
Steele), Dee Daniels
and Edith Wallace.
Hosted by legendary DJ Red
Robinson and featuring a world-class ten-piece band directed
by pianist Michael Creber,
The Magic of Christmas lived up to its reputation as a variety
show in the best sense of the word: with seasonal music in a wide
variety of musical genres from pop and jazz to classical and beyond.
David Aiken, otherwise known as The
Checkerboard Guy, provided a liberal sprinkling of comedy,
and the angelic voices of the Blueridge Elementary School Choir,
the Carisbrooke School Intermediate Choir, the Mulgrave Junior
Choir and the CM Singers provided the final Christmas touch. It
was first-class entertainment for the whole family, in aid of
a worthy cause – a sure-fire way to get into the Christmas
spirit.
To spread the magic beyond the doors of the theatre,
proceeds from the evening were donated to the The
Province Empty Stocking Fund and Family
Services of the North Shore Christmas Bureau, which support
Christmas Bureaus throughout BC in providing meals and gifts to
families in need during the holiday season.
